Abstract

650,112. Light projectors. GRETENER, E. Dec. 20, 1947, No. 33742. Convention date, July 13, 1946. [Class 97 (i)] A high - intensity direct current arc lamp in which the arc is encircled by an air stream flowing from the positive electrode towards the negative electrode to form a highly-concentrated lightemitting arc discharge column between said electrodes comprises two coaxial reflectors between which said column is disposed, said reflectors being concave to one another and at least one reflector being spherical and having its centre of curvature located on the axis of the discharge column so that an inverted image of said column is superimposed on said column to homogenize and increase the intensity of the light emitted. As shown, the reflectors comprise a parabolic mirror 4 and a spherical mirror 5, the " blown arc " 2 being positioned so that the common optical axis of the mirrors 4, 5 is at right-angles to the arcdischarge column. In other form, the arc discharge column is coaxial with the common axis of the reflectors. The mirror 5 is preferably of metal and is provided on its rear side with cooling fins.
