Abstract
649,556. Automatic control systems for D.C. motors; exciting dynamo-electric machines. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. Oct. 18, 1948, No. 27033. [Classes 35 and 38 (iv)] [Also in Group XXXVII] In a Ward-Leonard system the generator field is automatically adjusted by a control exciter having two opposed fields energized respectively from a fixed supply and a voltage proportional to the motor E.M.F. As shown, the motor 2 is supplied from generator 4, the field winding 4a of which is excited by generator 5 which is itself excited from the tuned amplifying exciter 6. The control winding 6c of generator 6 is supplied from the saturable control generator 11 having two opposed windings 11a, 11b of which the former is supplied from the source 3 and the latter from the motor E.M.F. tapped from the rheostat 13. In order to maintain the exciter 6 in tune independently of any change in temperature of the field winding of generator 5, the winding 6b is energized by unbalance of the bridge 7, 8, 5a, 5b with rise in temperature. Hunting is prevented by the coil 14, which is conductively coupled to the field 4a and which applies a voltage to field 601 upon a change in the excitation of 4.
