Abstract
649,391. Dial gauges. MERCER, Ltd., T., and WATSON, R. R. July 15, 1948, No. 19077. [Class 106 (ii)] A dial gauge wherein movement of a feeler is transmitted to a reciprocable member moving transversely thereto through the intermediary of a ball abutting inclined surfaces is characterized in that the ball is guided along the axis of reciprocation of the member and the feeler is a lever - whose abutment surface is inclined to the tangent to its path of movement at a point on the path near the ball. The plunger 1 of the dial gauge engages a sphere 9 guided in a bore 8 and the sphere 9 engages an inclined surface at one end of a lever 13 pivoted on a screw 14, the other end of the lever acting as a feeler 15 and being formed separate from the arm 13, the two arms 13, 15 being castellated where their surfaces mate and being held in contact by a spring 18 so that their relative positions may be adjusted. The transmission parts are housed in a socket 4 which is slotted and clamped on the stem 2 of the gauge by a ring 6.
