Abstract
A therapeutic product is prepared by triturating fresh pineal glands in the presence of an extracting agent having a pH of 5 to 6, thereupon allowing the constituents of the triturated mixture to separate out at a temperature not exceeding 56 DEG F, decanting the supernatant liquor from the sediment and finally purifying the liquor. Preferably the triturating agent is pumice, powdered glass or sand and the extracting agent is physiological saline solution which has been adjusted to pH 6 by the addition of acetic acid. The liquor may be pumped by centrifuging or by filtration under sterile conditions and then mixed with a bactericide such as phenol or thymol or an antibiotic such as penicillin or penicillin G. The mixture may be kept in a refrigerator until required for use.
