Abstract

A therapeutic substance is prepared from the subcutaneous cellular tissue of warm blooded animals by the extraction thereof with a liquid solvent containing no oxygen in its molecule followed by desintegration and extraction with a second liquid solvent containing oxygen in its molecule and concentration and removal of the solvent. Preferably, the animals are subjected to red radiation before slaughter. As liquid solvents of the first kind are mentioned pertroleum ether, carbon tetrachloride trichlorethylene and as liquid solvents of the second kind; diethyl ether, amyl acetate and acetone. Disintegration may be achieved mechanically e.g. by grinding with sand, or chemically, e.g. by digestion with e.g. trypsin, papsin or pepsin and may be followed by adjustment of the pH to 3-4 to precipitate albuminous material. The product may be compounded in oil in water and water in oil emulsions to make creams and lotions for external application.
