648,500. Cutting-apparatus. KERR, J. Aug. 30, 1948, No. 22862. Convention date, Aug. 28, 1947. [Class 31 (i)] A paper - cutting machine having a cutting knife and a back gauge and a hand wheel for moving the back gauge is characterized by the provision of locking means for the hand wheel 5 comprising a pair of levers 7, 8, pivoted intermediate their ends to a bracket 6 and adapted to clamp the wheel between their ends, a pair of links 9, 10, pivoted to each other and to the. ends of the levers so as to form a toggle joint and an arm 11 connected to the lever 10 and swingable to make and break the toggle joint to respectively clamp and release the wheel. The arm 11 is held in clamped position by spring 16 and is operated by a pedal on link 12. In a modification, not shown, the link 10 is provided with an arm engaging the manual operating-lever of the machine so that when the lever is moved to operate the cutting mechanism, the hand wheel is clamped.
