Abstract

647,698. Endless-belt conveyers. IMPERIAL TOBACCO CO. (OF GREAT BRITAIN & IRELAND), Ltd. Dec. 7, 1948, No. 31589. [Class 78 (i)] [Also in Group VI] In a mouth-piece cigarette-making machine, multi-length stubs delivered from a hopper 10 on to a groove 15 are moved lengthwise by a push-rod 16 into a holder 24, 25, bisected by a rotating disc-shaped cutter 83, and ejected by the succeeding stub on to a conveyer band 29 which separates the stubs and carries them to a stop 45 where a member 52 knocks them transversely into a magazine 22 in which they are arranged one on top of another. A thin blade 88 rotating with the cutter 83 steadies the stub lengths whilst being cut, and the member 52 is attached to a pivoted arm 60, Fig. 4, which is reciprocated and oscillated by an eccentric 57 and cam 62 so that after knocking a stub off the band on the forward stroke it is raised to return over the succeeding stub. A plunger 50 ejects the stubs from the magazine 22 into bores 12 in an intermittently rotating wheel 9 forming part of the cigarette machine described in Specification 647,457, [Group VI]. A flap 95 at the top of the magazine 22, hinged at 96 and held closed by clips 97, is knocked open to attract the operator's attention if a stub is delivered askew from the band 29. The mechanism may be driven independently or synchronously with a cigarettemaking machine.
