Abstract

647,610. Doors for resisting fluid pressure. FOURS LECOCQ SOC. ANON. July 7, 1948, No. 18283. Convention date, Aug. 27, 1947. [Class 55(i)] I A door 1 for a coke oven is sealed by a removable frame 7 having a metal seal 8 of rounded surface to contact the guard plate 3<1> of the door frame 3. The frame 7 is secured to the door 1 by clamps 11 and bolts 12, a seal 10, e.g. an asbestos cord, being inserted between the frame 7 and the door 1. Screws 14 supported by brackets 13 on the door 1 enable pressure to be applied to the seal 8. The frame 7 is of metal sheet, strong and thick, e.g. about 5 mm., and the seal 8 which is rigidly connected to it, e.g. by welding, may be of any suitable cross-section, e.g. oval or circular.
