Abstract
598,975. Coke oven doors. KOPPBRS CO., Inc. June 1, 1945, No. 13812. Convention date, June 1, 1944. [Class 123 (i)] A self-sealing coke oven door comprises a rigid metallic outer door-back member 27, an inner plug member 39 of which the refractory lining 46 forms part, and a flexible metallic sealing member 48 all of which are fixedly secured by bolts at one section only to a clamping sheet 26 and thus to each other, and at other sections are compressively non-fixedly secured by cleat like bars 34, 43, screwed to the sheet and so bearing on the members as to pull them into pressure contact with the said sheet 26 whereby each of the members is capable of relative vertical sliding movement to allow for expansion differences. Separate sets of cleating bars clamp the door-back member and the plug member to the clamping sheet. Spring loaded adjustable plungers 56, attached to the doorback around its periphery force the sealing member 48 into pressure contact the door frame sealing surface 19.
