647,492. Moulding plates, trays, cups, &c. from fibrous resin-bearing material. KEYES FIBRE CO. July 31, 1947, No. 20748. Convention date, May 14, 1941. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Groups VIII and XVII] A dish-shaped article is made by first forming a body layer 11 from an aqueous pulp mixture containing fibre and a water-insoluble uncured 'thermosetting resin, then forming a surface layer 10 from an aqueous fibre pulp, drying it, impregnating it with an uncured thermosetting resin dissolved in a solvent, drying the layer, superimposing the layers 10, 11, and moulding under heat and pressure between dies 14, 15. The layers are formed by applying suction to a foraminous die immersed in the pulp. Two surface layers may be used, one on each side of the body layer. For thick sections, several body layers may be used and a thin layer rich in resin may be arranged between several body layers. The surface layers contain more resin than the body layers. The resins used may be urea or phenol formaldehyde. The die 15 may be provided with an. embossing surface. U.S.A. Specification 2,274,095 is referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that a thermoplastic resin may be used instead of a thermosetting resin in the body and surface layers. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
