Abstract
A protective coating is moulded on a preformed article by applying a sheet of textile woven or knitted fabric or felted or paper material treated before or after application with a bonding material and subjecting the covered article in a mould shaped to the article to heat and pressure so that the bonding material is rendered hard and infusible and the covering adheres to the article. The fabric may be made from cotton, linen, silk, wool or asbestos and the bonding material may be a phenol-formaldehyde resin and applied by dipping, spraying or otherwise. A temporary outer cover of rubber may be used during moulding and then removed. The coated article may be trimmed and finished with paint, varnish, dope or other compound or a varnish consisting of an oleosynthetic resinous material which is hardened by baking. The covering may be applied to articles of wood, such as airscrews, moulded synthetic resins, or coils, insulated conductors or other electrical apparatus. Specifications 333,763, [Class 87 (ii), Moulding plastic &c. substances], and 358,120 are referred to. According to the Provisional Specification a mould as described in Specification 401,276 may be used. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 353,430 and 392,770.
