Abstract

558,636. Plywood. KING, E. P., and WOOD DEVELOPMENT, Ltd. July 10, 1942, No. 9635. [Class 145 (ii)] Relates to plywood of the kind that includes interlayers of paper or fabric which has been treated or impregnated with a thermoplastic or thermosetting material. According to the invention, the veneer layers are made from a wood of relatively low density, such as poplar, American whitewood, bass, sweet gum, or gaboon. The interlayer may be made from a high or low density paper, such as kraft paper, impregnated or coated with a phenol-formaldehyde resin or like material; and each interlayer may comprise two or more sheets of the treated paper. Greater flexibility of the finished product may be obtained by treating the veneer with ammonia or a similar softening agent.
