Abstract

647,332. Vehicle wheels. DUNLOP RUBBER CO., Ltd., BUTLER, H. J., and PLAYER, E. Nov. 18, 1948, No. 29966. [Class 144 (ii)] A detachable tyre-retaining flange at one side of.a wheel rim, stated to be particularly applicable to aircraft wheels, is formed in arcuate sections 3, having lugs 5 connected by bolts 4, and provided with projections 11 (of rectangular or other cross-section) adapted to engage annular recesses 6 in the rim-base 7. Slots 13 are provided in the flange-parts to take a prising-tool and, to prevent circumferential creep of the flange, a key 12 is fitted between the rim-base and the junction of two of the flange-sections. As shown, the projections 11 and the seating grooves 6 are of increasing width towards the centre-plane of the wheel to facilitate axial assembly of the flange sections.
