Abstract

570,988. Pneumatic tyres. WOODWORTH, C. B. May 10, 1943, No. 7398. [Class 144 (ii)] In a pneumatic tyre and rim construction in whioh the rim is formed with seats 22 for the tyre beads 26 and with flanges 30 engaging the side walls of the casing adjacent the beads, and the tyre when inflated is of maximum width substantially at the peripheries 36 of the flanges, the tyre does not overlap the peripheries of the flanges. As shown, the portion of the tyre casing extending outwardly of the flanges is substantially of semi-elliptioal cross-section, and the rim is formed with a trough 18. The casing is moulded so that the beads are more closely spaced than when the tyre is deflated, so that on deflation occurring, the beads move towards one another and the tyre collapses into the rim without overlapping the flange peripheries 36, Fig. 2, allowing the wheel to run on the flanges without damaging the tyre.
