[Class 144 (ii)] A tyre tread having circumferential ribs 7, 8 is provided with transverse slits 11 the majority of which terminate within the ribs. As shown, the slits are arranged in staggered circumferential rows, the . slits in adjacent rows overlapping t r a n s - versely of the tyre.
