Abstract

647,006. Windows. RASMUSSEN, V. B. K. Dec. 29, 1947, Nos. 34427 and 34428. Convention dates, May 22, 1945, and Feb. 23, 1946. [Class 20(iii)] In a window which can be pivoted about a horizontal substantially central axis for ventilation purposes and can also be swung around so far that the outside of the glass can be cleaned from the inside of the building, the said axis C is displaced from the plane of the sash 1 towards the outside of the window whereby during the initial part of the movement of the sash from its closed position, the ends of the sash move virtually at right angles to the frame 2 and the middle zone of the sash adjacent to the axis moves substantially in the plane of the sash. The sash is connected to the frame by pairs of interengaging arcuate guides, the members of each pair being secured respectively to the sash and the frame. In Fig. 6, the member secured to the frame comprises concentric arcuate walls 6 between which is received slidably an arc-shaped rib member 11 secured to the sash, the rib having a concentric slot for the passage of a pin 18 which limits the swing of the member 11 in the upward direction, this limiting position being shown in regularly broken lines. The lower wall 6 is replaced, for part of its length, by a member 8 which is pivoted at 9 but is retained in its operative position by a screw 10. When the sash is swung counterclockwise to open it, the rib 11 slides down the guides 6 into the position shown in dot and dash lines where it is again stopped by the pin 18. In this position it may be swung, for cleaning, about the pin 18 as a pivot, this being permitted by the end of the upper guide 6 entering a gap 13 in the rib 11. Toremove the sash from the frame, the screws 10 are removed allowing the members 8 to swing down so that the ribs 11 may be removed laterally from the guides 6, the pins 18 passing through the gaps 13 during the removal. The sides of the sash and frame are provided with weather excluders 15, 16, Fig. 7, of channel section, which are secured to the frame and sash respectively. The motion of the middle zone of the window, being as stated above, co-planar with the sash, it is possible, as shown, to have an overlap of the weather excluders. In a modification, Fig. 10, the arcuate guide 102, secured by a base member 101 to the sash, is provided with a flange 103 which retains the opposed guide elements 108, 109 which are secured by a base member 106 to the frame. The base 106 carries a pivoted lever 112 which is releaseably secured in such position that a hooked end thereof engages a pin 104 carried by the guide 102, the swing of the sash for ventilation purposes being thus limited. The further swing for cleaning is by the hook swinging around the pin 104 as a pivot, and, if the sash is to be removed, the hook is removed from the path of the pin.
