Abstract

801,810. Mechanism for operating pivoted windows, louvres &c. ARENS CONTROLS, Ltd. Dec. 21. 1956 [Jan. 13, 1956], No. 1265/56. Classes 20(3) and 137 Mechanism for operating a window, damper, or louvre 3, pivotally mounted along its upper edge, within a fixed frame 2 comprises a stay 17 of channel section which has, at one end 19, an upstanding L-shaped arm 29 pivoted at 28 to a hinge arm 31 horizontally pivoted, by a removable pin 32, to the lower edge of the window 3, and a manually operable winch 4 having cables 5, 6 which pass through two flexible tubes in a casing 7 connected to a truncated conical part 13 of a platform 14. The latter is hinged, by a horizontal pin 9, to a bracket 10 screwed to the lower member of the frame 2 and carries a vertical stud 23 which receives the hub 22 of a pulley 15 having deep flanges 16 between which the stay 17 is guided. The cables 5, 6 pass in opposite directions, partly around, the pulley 15 and are connected respectively to the stay ends 18, 19. Upon rotating the handle of the winch, in the direction to open the window 3, the cables 5, 6 are drawn in, and paid out, respectively, the stay 17 rotating about the hinge 28, which remains concentric with the hub 22 of the pulley 15, from a nested position shown in Fig. 1, to an extended position 17<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 3, where it engages a stop 35 on the platform 14 to prevent it from further rotation. Continued rotation of the winch then moves the stay longitudinally to swing the window open. In a modification, the stop 35 is provided with an upper arm which is connected to the part 13 of the platform. In the case where the platform 14 is mounted to the movable member and the stay 17 is pivoted to the fixed frame, the platform 14 is moved longitudinally along the stay during movement of the movable member. A plurality of windows, or louvres, may be controlled by individual winches, or by means of a common winch connected to all of the cables.
