Abstract
Methyl or ethyl chloride is obtained by heating to above 200 DEG C. the corresponding alkoxy magnesium chloride which has been prepared by reacting a Grignard reagent containing a chlorine atom attached to magnesium and methyl or ethyl orthosilicate. The alkoxy magnesium chloride may first be heated at a temperature below 150 DEG C., preferably under vacuum. In the example, ethyl chloride is prepared. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 refers to the preparation of methyl or ethyl chloride by heating to above 200 DEG C., the corresponding alkoxy magnesium chloride, irrespective as to its method of preparation. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
