Abstract
Halogenated aryl trichlorosilanes containing from 1 to 7 halogen atoms per aryl radical are prepared by reacting a phenyl or xenyl trichlorosilane with bromine or chlorine in the presence of iron or a salt thereof at a temperature of from 0 DEG to 250 DEG C. The salt may be a ferric halogen salt, e.g. ferric chloride. In the examples, mono-, di- and tri-bromophenyl trichlorosilanes and the corresponding chlorophenyl trichlorosilanes and tetra-, hexa- and hepta-chloroxenyl trichlorosilanes are prepared.
