646,096. Churns. HILL, R. May 3, 1948, No. 12142. [Class 86] A butter churn consists of a metal cylinder, driven by power or hand, pivoted centrally to side pieces 11 on a shaft 21, 22 which passes through it at an angle of 95¢ degrees to the axis of the cylinder to form a breaker. The cylinder may be open at each end, and lids 51, 52 have a tapered rebate at the edge into which a rubber washer is fitted. The lids seat on the end rims of the cylinder and are held clamped in position by bars 63 and hook clamps 65 which have a surface 68 curved vertically to form clamping ramps and also horizontally so that the free ends are spaced out from the rims. The bar 63 is pivoted at 62 to a boss 60 at the centre of the lid and is turned by handles 69.so that its chamfered ends pass easily under the free ends of the clamps and engage the ramps 68 to apply strong pressure at the centre of the lid. Ah inspection panel 72 and a normal air vent are provided in one lid.
