Abstract

645,812. Mixing charge. THOMPSON, W. G., and FREEMAN, H. Oct. 21,1948, No. 27317. [Class 7(ii)] A charge mixing device, inserted between the carburetter outlet 4 and intake manifold inlet 2, comprises a flange 1 carrying a perforated partition 12 and a stationary fan-like member 17 on the engine side thereof for causing turbulence, the total cross-sectional area of the perforations being equal to or greater than the crosssection of the manifold 2. The member 17 may be welded to the flange 1 or secured by its boss to the partition 12, and the ends 16 of the perforations are chamfered to prevent whistling. In a modification the members 12, 17, are formed in a cylinder which is press-fitted either into the flange 1 or into a counterbore in the manifold 2.
