Abstract
645,518. Sidecar body - suspensions. SWALLOW COACHBUILDING CO. (1935), Ltd., and STRAUSSLER, N. Oct. 12, 1948, No. 26497. [Class 108(ii)] A sidecar comprises a peripheral frame a wherein or whereon the body c is resiliently mounted forwardly by means of a fixed pivot b, and rearwardly by two or more levers or radius arms e which are pivotally connected to a transverse frame member d by bonded rubber unions and by shackles or links e<SP>2</SP> to the body c. The arms e are secured by clamping bolts to their respective rubber unions so as to permit their rotational adjustment about the member d. The fixed pivot comprises a transverse tube b secured by split lugs b<SP>1</SP>, b<SP>2</SP> (Fig. 3) to the frame a, and flanged annuli b<SP>3</SP> rigid with the body c. Each annulus b<SP>3</SP> is connected with the tube b by a rubber bush b<SP>4</SP>, having a flange b<SP>5</SP> spaced from the respective lug b<SP>1</SP> by washers b<SP>6</SP>. The tube d is secured to the frame a by lugs d' with each of which a downwardly projecting arm d<SP>2</SP> is rigid. The arm d<SP>2</SP> carries a spindle on which is mounted by means of a bonded rubber bush d<SP>4</SP>, an upwardly directed arm g carrying the sidecar wheel spindle g<SP>1</SP>.
