Abstract
644,842. Making boats ; angular bending; twisting. SIVARD, E. L. M. May 31, 1948, No. 14703. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] In a machine for longitudinally and transversely curving and axially twisting a range of thin metal strips having different degrees of curvature and twist such as are used for hulls of small ships &c. the work is rolled between a driven convex roller 2 and a concave roller 2<SP>1</SP> and then passes over a concave third roller 8, both concave rollers having individual vertical adjustment at each end. Varied transverse curvature is obtained by varying the pass between rollers 2, 2<SP>1</SP> by screws 5 and for unsymmetrical curves the rollers 2, 2<SP>1</SP> may be unsymmetrical and/or the concave roller 2<SP>1</SP> may be inclined by adjusting the screws 5 differently. Varied longitudinal curves are obtained by vertical adjustment of the roller 8 by screws 10, axial twist being obtained by adjusting the screws 10 differently to incline the roller. In a modification a plurality of pairs of rollers may be provided and the machine may be power-driven.
