Abstract

644,258. Piles. HAGRUP, J. F. Aug. 13, 1948, No. 21412. [Class 68 (ii)] A concrete pile is formed in situ by first assembling within a forming tube 10, Fig. 1, a second tube 16 having secured therein a concrete supply pipe 20 and tubular guides 24 for receiving reinforcing rods. The inserted tube 16 is provided with upper and lower end plates 17, 18 and packing 22, 35 is provided beneath the annular flange 19 of the lower plate and above the upper plate. A cap 26 is loosely positioned on the lower end of the outer tube 10 which is then driven, with the insert tube in position, by blows on a removable head 33. When the tubes are fully sunk the head is removed and the reinforcing rods are dropped through the guides 24, their lower ends penetrating and anchoring themselves in an annular member 30 of inverted U-section secured to the cap 26. Alternatively the reinforcing rods may be carefully passed through the guides 24 and the insert tube, with the rods in the guides, is then bodily withdrawn and an anchoring plate secured on to the lower ends of the rods, the insert tube, rods and anchoring plate then being replaced within the tube 10. The two tubes are now raised in unison as shown in Fig. 6, the cap 26 and the reinforcing rods 37 being left behind, whilst concrete is passed from a hopper head 40, down the pipe 20 and into the hole formed by the receding tubes 10, 16.
