Abstract

Exterior surfaces of articles are coated by applying powdered thermoplastic material to an external surface heated to a temperature high enough to sinter a layer of the material to the surface whereafter the article is reheated to fuse the material. The thermoplastic material may be applied by dipping or rolling the article in it. The article may be heated in an oven, by a torch or taken hot from a previous process. The final heating when using a torch should be on the uncoated side of the article. The cycle may be repeated to produce thicker coatings. Specified thermoplastics are polythene, shellac, polyvinyl chloride and acetate, polystyrene, cellulose acetate-butyrate, polyamides, sulphur, chlorinated paraffin wax and that known under the Registered Trade Mark "Abril" wax. Pigments and anti-oxidants may be added. Specifications 579,442, 585,395 and 643,539 are referred to.
