Abstract
643,269. Digesters. FAIRWEATHER, H. G. C. (Aktiebolaget Kamyr). Dec. 28, 1945, No. 35096. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Dec. 28, 1945.] [Class 64(i)] A continuously operating digester with main inlet and outlet at opposite ends has in its walls inlets 4, 6 and substantially opposite outlets 1, 5 each covered by a sieve, the-inlets and outlets communicating with external pipes connected to a pump 2, heat exchanger 3 and a valve 7 by which any of the pipes can be connected to the heat exchanger, so that a transverse flow of heated or cooled liquid, variable in direction, can be produced in the digester. Sulphur dioxide may be removed from, or acid, alkali, or sulphur dioxide may be added to, the withdrawn liquid before its return to the digester.
