Abstract

643,093. Sewing-machines. READ, J. E. Jan. 5, 1948, No. 265. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1947. [Class 112] One or more needles 17 are loosely supported in registering grooves of two pairs of toothed rollers arranged to form a gear train, the first pair of rollers 9, 10 being adapted to pleat the material 16 as it passes on to the point of each of the needles and to pass the material on to the second pair of rollers 11, 12, which maintain the pleats. The pleated material is forced off the straight part of the needle by the incoming material, and collects on threads 23 attached to the needles. The roller 9 is driven by a hand-crank, and the roller 12 is removable for replacement of the needles. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 states that the second pair of rollers may be completely detached from the first pair of rollers. This subjectmatter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
