Abstract

The viscosity of starch solutions is reduced by subjecting them, without addition of dispersing agents, to beater action in a rotary beater machine having a circumferential velocity of at least 47 metres per second. Specifications 135,591 and 208,911, [both in Class 121], are referred to. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the use of apparatus having stirrers of lower peripheral velocity, and the reduction of the viscosity of starch solutions by forcing them under high pressure through capillary slots. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
