[Class 120(ii)] A holder for a yarn cake comprises two spaced end flanges having disposed between them a plurality of segmental members pressed outwardly by springs, so that they may engage the inside of the yarn cake, the segmental members being carried by arms which slide in bearings in members disposed on the inner sides of the flanges and mounted on an axle or tube. In one modification Figs. 1 and 2, the holder comprises end flanges 17, 18 carried by members 3, 4 which are rotatably carried on a spindle 1 held by flats 2 in supporting brackets. Bushes 7, 8 on the members 3, 4 are engaged by washers 5, 6 on the spindle 1 to position the flanges 17, 18. The members 3, 4 are apertured to receive arms 10 which carry segmental members 9 and are urged outwardly by springs 12. The flange 18 is removable to allow the positioning of a cake on the members 9, the flange being then locked in place on pegs 19 secured to the member 4 by a spring-urged locking plate 20. Nuts 24 bearing upon a friction washer 23 allow the adjustable braking of the holder. In a further modification, Fig. 10, the holder is mounted upon a fixed vertical spindle 26, and supported by a ball bearing 28 under an adjustable stud 27 in the knob 8, the members 3, 4 being attached to a tube 25 rotating on the spindie 26. A friction washer 29 prevents overrunning of the holder. The flanges may be formed with slots 36. A brake, Fig. 11, comprising a washer 29 carried by a threaded sleeve 31 supported on a member 32 held to the spindle 26 by a set screw 34 and furnished with a scale and locking screw 35 may be fitted.
