[Class 61(ii)] The box joint at the pivot of a pair of pliers or like tool having crossed jaws with handles a, b is made by forming a transverse recess c in the member a of a depth of about two-thirds of its thickness and forming a complementary recess f on each side and of a depth of about one-third of the thickness of the member b, the assembly being completed by a plate g similar in shape to the recess c and welded, brazed or otherwise united to shoulders on the member a. The stepped end portions d of the recess c are formed as parallel or arcuate bearing surfaces for the member b. The parts are apertured at h to receive a pivot pin.
