[Class 44] In a catch for sliding windows and the like, the frame b of a window c has a plate a secured thereto and provided with lugs between which a finger lever is pivoted on a pin e. The lever is of bell-crank form and one arm f is forked and lies between the lugs, whilst the other arm g extends across one side of plate a. A nose piece k is pivoted on a pin j, between the forked sides of arm f, the forward end m of the nose piece being hooked to engage a projection n on the complementary part of the fastening and its tail end r lying between the arm g and the adjacent side of plate a. A spring s housed in plate a presses a plunger t against tail r so that the forward ends of arm f and a projection u on the inner side of the nose piece are forced against a flat surface i on plate a. When the finger piece h is pressed to the left, arm g rotates the nose piece k against the action of spring s to release the catch, the rotation of arm g being limited by a stop v. In a modification the finger piece h extends from the lower end of arm g and is of similar shape to the handle q on the complementary part.
