Hook fastenings.- Vehicle doors are secured against opening and against rattling by a pivoted hook to which is pivoted a rod having a ring at its free end in which works an eccentric disc turned by an operating handle to engage and tighten the hook on a pin. The hook has spring means for retaining it against protrusion when the door is open, to avoid bending the hook if the door is slammed. In the form illustrated, the hook and operating mechanism are carried in the thickness of the door and the pin, with which the hook engages, by the frame. The hook d is pivoted at e<1> and the rod c has a ring m at one end and is pivoted to the hook at eat its other end. A disc l turned by the handle o about the eccentric axis n moves the rod c to engage the hook with the pin k, the disc can be turned past the dead centre until the flattened part of the ring rests on the plate p. This tightens the hook on the pin k and prevents rattling and accidental disengagement. When the hook has been withdrawn and the door opened, a spring plunger 8 is released from its engagement with the door-abutment 9 and shoots forward so that the tongue 2 carried by it engages in the notch 1 in the hook and retains it within the door. When the door is closed, the abutment 9 presses the plunger 8 inwards and moves the tongue 2 out of register with the notch 1 to allow the hook to be operated.
