Catches yielding to pull and pressure ; stud-and. socket fastenings.-A fastening for motor-vehicle bonnets comprises a plate a mounted on the chassis and engaging a socket s on the bonnet, the socket carrying a bar f<1>, Fig. 4, engaging notches in the plate a and a spring t holding the parts in closed position. In a modification, Fig. 5, a spring c is attached to the plate a which is toothed to engage teeth on the bar f<1>, the socket carrying a cam lever d to compress the spring. The plate a may be spring mounted and may engage guides on the socket. A lock or bolt may also be provided.
