Abstract

642,550. Potato diggers. NILSSON, N. V. Dec. 20, 1947, No. 33741. Convention date, Nov. 27, 1946. [Class 6(iii)] Relates to potato-diggers of the type having a share 3 flanked by upwardly-extending shields 4 between which the excavated matter is directed by a spinner 10, 11. According to the invention, the outermost tines 11 of the spinner rotate outside the shields and further tines 11 rotate adjacent to, but inside, the shields, in order to prevent the accumulation of trash along the shields. The earth and potatoes are carried upwardly by an endless conveyer 9 comprising spaced transverse rods through which earth can fall. The conveyer and spinner are driven by bevel gearing from a power take-off shaft 14 connected to the towing tractor. The spinner rotates anticlockwise and the linear speed of the ends of the tines exceeds the forward speed of the machine. Specification 642,578 is referred to.
