Abstract

642,120. Suction cleaners. SILVERMAN, L., and VILES, F. J. April 23, 1947, No. 10842. Convention date, April 17, 1945.[Classes 8(i) and 8(ii)] A portable fume exhauster comprises a housing 1 having inlet and outlet openings 7, 12 at opposite ends, the inlet being connected to a flexible hose 8 through which fume is drawn by an exhaust fan 9, a filter bag 18 urged lengthwise, e.g. by a spring 22 to the collapsed position and means operable from outside the housing for extending the bag from such position and thereby shaking the same; the housing having a normally closed clean-out opening 29 adjacent the open end of the bag. A plurality of the bags 18 have their open ends secured to an apertured plate 15 and then closed ends are secured by springs 19 to a supporting plate 21. The bags are collapsed by the springs 22 on releasing a flexible pull-cord 23 from a hook 27, and are extended on replacing the cord. Dislodged fume is removed through the opening 29. A preliminary fume and dirt separating chamber 36 comprises a concave baffle 37 and a spark arrester screen 34.
