Abstract

641,821. Winding and paying-out apparatus. FELCO HOISTS, Ltd. Nov. 18, 1947 No. 30560. [Class 78 (v)] A mechanism for laying on and off a hoisting rope is of the kind comprising a helically grooved drum, an internally threaded ring adapted to engage the groove adjacent the last turn on the drum, and a flanged gripping band gripping the last few turns and having an annular flange engaging an internal annular groove in the ring, and is characterized in that the internal annular groove is continuous, the ring being formed of two closely fitting substantially semi-circular sections, and the annular flange is also made continuous, the band being formed in sections as a second continuous ring. The ring 14 comprises two sections 18 and 19, Fig. 3, the end faces of section 18 being formed with lugs 20, 21 closely fitting slots 22, 23, cut in the end faces of section 19. Bolts 24, 25 lock the sections together. Lugs 26, 27 are formed integrally with sections 18, 19 to engage a guide rail 30, disposed parallel with the winding axis. An extension 31 of slot 23 forms a guide aperture for the end 13 of the rope. The gripping band 34 is of U-shaped cross-section and is formed by bolting together two sections 35 at 36, Fig. 4. A tension spring 39 is extended between hooks 38 on the sections 35 to cause gripping of the rope. In order to provide a smooth continuous groove and annular flange the edges of the annular groove at the joinings are chamfered and the edges of the band sections 35 are also chamfered. End stop gears actuated indirectly.-A lug 44 is formed integrally with ring section 18 and is drilled at 45 to receive a rod 48, Fig. 8, on which it slides. Adjustable stops 49, 50 are secured to rod 48 one end of the rod being extended to a point 51 where it is pivoted to a lever 53 in turn pivoted on a switch bracket 55. A spring 56 normally holds lever 53 upright. When displaced by lug 44 contacting either stop, cam 59 or 60 actuates one of two switches 46. Specification 629,496, [Group XXXVII], is is referred to.
