Abstract
641,248. Audible and like signalling apparatus. SHIELDS, R. (Stangenberg Aktieselskabet, A. S.). June 20, 1947, No. 16294. [Class 118 (ii)] To operate a whistle intermittently compressed air is supplied to a control chamber until the rise in pressure opens an outlet valve to sound the whistle and close an interconnected inlet valve, the subsequent fall in pressure in the chamber allowing said outlet valve to close, and said inlet valve to open again. A whistle is mounted in an aperture 52 of the cover-plate 12 of a compressed air container 10. Air is admitted into a control chamber 18 by the inlet valve 46 until the pressure is sufficient to depress a spring- loaded outlet valve 24 and by a linkage 38 close the inlet valve 46. Air then flows into a whistle chamber 20 and sounds the whistle until the fall in pressure in the control chamber is sufficient to allow the spring 30 to close the outlet valve 24 and so open the inlet valve 46, when the process begins again. By suitable variation of the volume of the chambers and adjustment of the spring tension any desired relation between the duration of a whistle signal and the duration of the subsequent pause may be obtained.
