Abstract
552,351. Actuating apparatus by sounds. HAZELTINE CORPORATION. March 6, 1942, No. 2995. Convention date, Jan. 3, 1941. [Class 118 (ii)] A device for exploding a projectile near to a sound-emitting target, such as an aeroplane, comprises means mounted in the projectile for generating a periodic effect which varies in accordance with the frequency of the sound emitted by the target, and means responsive to a change of frequency of the control effect for exploding a detonator. The sound from the target is received by a microphone 11 the output of which is passed through an amplifier and limiter 14, a frequency-responsive circuit 15, a detector 16, a differentiating circuit 17, and then to a detonator 18. The change in the frequency of the sound received by the microphone, due to the Doppler effect as the projectile passes the target, produces in the output of the unit 17 a pulse which explodes the detonator.
