In a sound transmitter having a reflector 3 in the form of a portion of. an ellipsoid of revolution, the sound source e.g. a conical diaphragm 1 is at, one focus F of the ellipsoid, the other focus F<SP>1</SP> being outside the reflector 3, and the axis of the sound beam from the sound source is inclined to the principal axis of the ellipsoid.
