Abstract

Copper-aluminium bronze is produced by a sintering process in which powders of both alloying components are mixed with 0.5-2.0 per cent of an additional metal which forms a hydride at a temperature below the sintering temperature, this mixture being exposed in a rotating drum to the action of bodies producing impact stresses and then compressed to moulded parts which are treated in hydrogen to form a hydride of the additional metal and then sintered at a temperature at which the hydride is decomposed liberating hydrogen. The additional metal may be titanium, molybdenum or lithium. The parts may be again pressed after sintering and again treated with hydrogen at a lower temperature and sintered at a higher temperature.
