[Class 661 A cooker 1 has an outwardly stepped rim 3 to provide a ground surface 2 on which rests the ground surface of the lid 4 thus providing a water seal 10. The water which may be poured on after cooking, aids condensation of vapour inside the cooker so that food may be kept under partial vacuum, a stopper 7 being raised to allow the air tc enter before removing the lid. A gasket may be provided between the lid and the vessel. The cooker may have a stand 9 for steaming food.
