Abstract
639,571. Tractor wheels. VUIGLIO, E. June 10, 1947, No. 15272. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Oct. 27, 1947.] [Class 144 (i)] In a tractor wheel having adjustable groundengaging cramps pivotally secured to a ring- member which is coaxial with the rim and arranged for angular displacement with reference thereto, to project or retract the cramps through evenly-distributed openings in said wheel rim, the cramps are urged outwardly by a spring acting on the ring-member. A wheel body 2 having a rim 3 carries a ring member 8, the inner periphery of which bears on rollers 9 rotatably mounted on studs 11 riveted to the body 2. Arcuate ground-engaging cramps 5 are pivotally mounted on studs 7 fixed to the ring 8 and co-operate with evenly spaced openings 4 in the rim 3. A spring-urged bolt 31 co-operating with openings 15 or 16 locks the ring 8 in the positions of projection or retraction of the cramps and an abutment 34 on the inner periphery of the ring 8 bears alternately on adjacent rollers 9 to limit the displacement of the ring 8. Intermediate openings for the bolt 31 may be provided between the limiting positions 15 and 16. A spring 18 urges the ring 8 into the "projected" position and a removable lever 22 pivoting about one of the cramp studs 7 and removably linked to a stud 27 on the wheel body 2 effects the angular displacement of the ring. The wheel may be mounted on a tractor beside a pneumatic-tyred wheel for road travel.
