Abstract

639,103. Making tubes. HARRISONVENNING TOOL CO., Ltd., and HARRISON, G.W. May 12, 1948, No. 13072. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Stamping.-A hand tool for expanding copper lead, &c. tube ends 12 comprises a split die 11 surrounding the tube end and held in a hinged hand-held clamp 1 tightened by a hand screw 8; and a rubber block 18 fitting in the tube 12. A piston 17 is pulled endways by a nut 19 and tommy bar 20 to compress the rubber against a die abutment 14 and thereby to expand the rubber radially and force the tube end 12 into a die recess 13. The die may be externally ribbed for strength and be made by casting (Fig. 3, not shown). According to the Provisional Specification the die parts may be hinged and the die abutment may be a separate plate. The die recesses may be eccentric, and the tube may be expanded away from the end.
