[Class 51 (i)] [Also in Group XIII] Walls 12 for chambers or passages containing hot gases, particularly steam-generator furnace walls, include fluid tubes 13 welded to transverse tie bars 18, heat insulating material 15, and a gas-tight outer casing 16 with transverse buckstay assemblies 17A, 17B. Buckstays 21 are supported on tubes 13 by brackets 26 whose top and bottom plates 28 are welded to groups of the tubes, the various parts being so dimensioned as to prevent free longitudinal movements of the buckstays 21 relative to the tubes 13 on expansion. Comer brackets 35, Fig. 5, for the buckstays of adjacent walls include web plates 37 secured to the tie bars 18 and to each other by bolts 36 passing through vertical flange plates 39 welded to said plates 37 which also carry horizontal plates 42 sandwiching the buckstay webs 25 and connected thereto by bolts 46 extending through slots 47 in said buckstay webs. The outer casing 16, Fig. 2, is formed of a plurality of panels 48 welded together along peripheral flanges 49 formed with expansion gaps 59, said panels extending between upper and lower buckstay assemblies 17A and 17B, each panel having upper clip 51a and lower clip 51b slotted onto flanges 23 of the buckstays and each panel having also stiffening ribs 56. Flexible connection sections or breather plates 61 extending for the width of the panels 48 enclose the buckstays 21 and are welded to each other or to corner housings 65 along their flanges 63 thus preserving the gas tightness of the outer casing 16. Each corner buckstay housing 65, Fig. 9, includes a cap 67 of channel cross-section having at each end U-shaped battens 75 and cooperating U-shaped sleeve members 81 with open slots 82 to allow for expansion, flanges 86 of the members 81 being welded to flanges 63 of adjoining breather plates. The caps 67, battens 75 and sleeves 81 are held together by screws 84 tapped into the battens 75. The corner housing is completed on the inner side, firstly by inner and outer angle bars 96 and 97 enclosing bent plates 91 with legs 89 attached to the sleeves 81 and also attached to the end panels 48a, and secondly by flanged corner plates 102 held on the upper and lower walls of the caps 67 by two of the screws 84 and formed with horizontally bent end portions 106 engaging lateral edges of the bars 97.
