A steam or other vapour generator comprises a group of parallel closely-spaced water tubes which define a planar surface, the spaces between the tubes being closed, there being at least one channel member spaced from the wall, the or each channel member having a group of tubes passing through openings in the channel member and seal-welded thereto, there being bars seal-welded to the outside of the wall as seal members extending between the channel member and the bar. In Figs. 1 and 2 the steam generator comprises tubes 16a, 16b forming a lower wall portion and tubes 18a, 18b forming an upper wall portion, alternate tubes being bent outwardly in two spaced horizontal planes so as to define two spaced horizontal planar surfaces 16a, 18b and 16b, 18a, the tubes 16a, 16b extending to a header 20 and the tubes 18a, 18b extending to a header 22. The tubes 16a, 18b extend through the vertical web of a channelsection member 26 and the tubes 16b, 18a similarly extend through the vertical web of a channel section member 24, the tubes being sealwelded to the channel members. L-section seal members 36, 34, Fig. 3, are welded to the flanges of the channel members 26, 24 and the tubes 16a, 16b and 18a, 18b; similarly a channelsection member 38 is welded to the flanges of the channel members 26, 24 and the tubes 16b, 18b whereby the region of entry of the horizontal tubes into the vertical tube wall is sealed. Scalloped bars 44 are secured to the tubes 18a, 18b and 16a, 16b so as to provide smooth surfaces to which the L-section members 36, 34 may be secured by means of flanges 46. Heat insulating material is disposed within the spaces defined by the sealing members and tubes.
