Abstract
638,404. Light conductor; overhead lamps. SCADENG, G. W., and WILLMOTT, E. April 26, 1948, No. 11363. [Classes 75 (ii) and 75 (iv)] In a lamp adapted to illuminate two or more areas remote from one another comprising a lamp shade directing light on to one area and transparent plastic rods conveying light to the other areas light reflecting means are provided to direct into the plastic rods light which otherwise would not be usefully employed. The lamp shown illuminates the interior of a shop by means of the shade 10 and it also illuminates the shop window by light which is conveyed through a transparent plastic rod 21 mounted in a tube 20 outstanding from the side of the shade. A parabolic or spherical reflector 17 mounted on the side of the light source 15 remote from the rod 21 directs light which would otherwise be lost on to the end of the rod. A lens 19 mounted between the source and the rod, and lenses 23 fitted inside the tube 21 concentrate the light on to the end of the rod. The lens 19, light source 15 and reflector 17 are adjustably bounted on bars 13 spanning the inside of the shade. The rod may be curved and is provided with frosted areas to cause the emission of light. Other rods may be used to illuminate further areas or to give a stronger light at a single area.
