Abstract
781,391. Fluorescent tube lighting fittings. PHILIPS ELETRICAL INDUSTRIES. Ltd. April 26, 1955 [April 29, 1954], No. 12014/55. Classes 75(2) and 75(4) A lighting fitting for an elongated light source such as a fluorescent tube providing a uniform illumination broadside in a horizontal plane, e.g. on a road surface comprises at its top a flat mirror 2 on each side of the source 1 inclined to each other at an angle of from 180-200 degrees on the source side and tangential to the upper surface of the source and joined each at the edge G, G<SP>1</SP> remote from the source to a part-cylindrical mirror 3, 4 of parabolic transverse section and disposed with such sections at right angles to the axis of the source and with the axes GH, G<SP>1</SP>H<SP>1</SP> of the sections passing through the intersections G, G<SP>1</SP> and through the part F of the source 1 most remote from the mirror 2 while the parabolic arcs 3, 4 subtend at point F an angle of not more than 30 degrees, this angle being bisected by the line FM at right angles to the line of symmetry JK. The foci of the mirrors 3, 4 lie at the point of intersection of their axes with the axis of symmetry JK of the lighting fittings i.e. at point F. Fig. 4 (not shown) illustrates an embodiment in which the mirrors 3 and 4 are also curved in the transverse horizontal plane, and Fig. 5 (not shown) the case with inclined mirrors 2 and with two horizontal light tubes one above the other.
