Abstract

638,138. Electric indicating systems. KAPELLA, Ltd., and REASON, R. E. Aug. 12, 1946, No. 23861. [Class 40 (i)] In a device for the electrical measurement of small movements, a coil whose magnetic circuit is varied to produce changes in inductance in accordance with the movements to be measured, forms part of a double bridge circuit supplied from a comparatively high-frequency source, to the frequency of which the coil is tuned at some position of the movable part within or near to the operative range. As shown, the tuned coil A of the sensitive device is common to the halves of the bridge, which are balanced respectively at or just beyond the opposite extremes of the range of movement of the sensitive device. The sensitivity of the system may be adjustable by ganged controls which simultaneously alter the balance points of the bridgehalves and the gain of the associated amplifier. The output may be used to operate a pen recorder. Construction of pick-up instrument.-The pick-up coil consists of a winding Q surrounding a core whose centre limb P<SP>1</SP> projects towards a movable plunger B<SP>1</SP> attached to a pivoted lever B<SP>2</SP> which carries a stylus at its other end, the whole being contained in a magnetic pot O and spring-pressed lid P.
