Abstract

637,325. Cam mechanism. HOBSON, Ltd., H. M., and EDWARDS, T. Aug. 13, 1947, No. 22498. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXVIII] In a mechanism for imparting a variable stroke to a driven reciprocating member, a fixed stroke driving member 28 and a variable stroke driven member 37 are mounted in a housing so as to reciprocate in paths inclined at an angle to each other, a stroke adjusting member 42 having thereon a surface 36 normally inclined to the path of the driving member 28 is also mounted in the housing, a roller or ball 32 contacts the driving member, the driven member and the inclined surface 36 of the stroke adjusting member and is arranged to roll along the inclined surface as the driving member reciprocates thereby imparting reciprocating movement to the driven member, and means are provided for rotating the stroke adjusting member so as to vary the inclination of its inclined surface to the path of the driving member and thereby vary the stroke of the driven member. The driving member 28 is reciprocative by a cam 27 and both it and the driven member 37 are returned by spring means 31 and 39 respectively. The roller 32 is pushed in one direction by shoulders 33 on the driving member and returned by a hook 35 on the driving member that engages a waisted portion 34 of the roller.
