[Also in Division B3] A continuous casting mould is reciprocated by a cam disc provided on at least one face with a cam path comprising recurrent equal cam path sections and operating follower rollers arranged symmetrically in a number corresponding to the number of the path sections in such manner that upon rotation of the cam disc the followers transmit simultaneously equal movements to the die table. The cam disc 13, Fig. 1, is driven through gearing 5, 7 and the followers 15, 16 are attached to the underside of the mould table 1. The weight of the table &c. is supplemented by a spring 21 to maintain the followers in contact with the cam path 14, which has two equal sections each extending over 180 degrees so that both followers perform identical movements. In a modification the cam disc faces the top surface of the mould table which is supported on springs. In a further modification, Fig. 3, the cam disc has paths on both faces so that the mould table is cam actuated in both directions. The lower cam followers 37, 38 may be adjusted by set screws 66 to compensate for wear. In a further embodiment, Fig. 4, the cam followers 43, 44 reciprocate the mould table 1 through levers 47, 48, whose pivot 50 may be adjusted by hand wheel 63 during operation of the machine to vary the amplitude of reciprocation. The cam path may have more than two equal sections, and a corresponding number of followers. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 951,334.
